The Techs Storm

Top 5 Cross-Platform Games to Play in 2024

Multiplayer gaming has grown exponentially in popularity since the first DOOM. At first, you were limited to playing games like Counter-Strike on your PC. But now, a lot of modern games are offering cross-platform play that allows you to play with your friends, regardless of platform.

Here are my picks for some of the best cross-platform games to play in 2024.

Fortnite

Genre: Battle Royale, Survival, Sandbox

Available On: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox X|S, Nintendo Switch, Android, Windows

Fortnite has seen an exponential rise in popularity since its release in 2017. Even in 2024, the game is going extremely strong, with new content and updates.

In the main Battle Royale mode, you and 100 other players land on an island and search for resources and weapons to survive the constantly shrinking storm as well as fight the other players to be the last person or team left and win the game.

With the constant updates, the developers have added new game modes as well, which end up feeling like entirely new games. I play this game with a group of around 10 people and we often play custom matches to fight each other.

One of my Spanish friends has a lot of internet issues while playing the game and since his English isn’t as good, he has a lot of trouble talking to English-speaking representatives. I recommended he contact Cox since they provide Spanish support at Cox servicio al cliente 24 horas, and he has been satisfied with his internet since then.

Minecraft Bedrock Edition

Genre: Sandbox

Available On: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox X|S, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, Windows

Minecraft has become a cultural sensation since its release in 2011. It has two editions you can choose between. The Java Edition is only available for PC and doesn’t support crossplay. However, the Bedrock Edition supports full cross-play and cross-progression.

In Minecraft, you play in a world that consists of cubes. There, you can gather resources and build anything you can think of, whether it’s a building, tree, or burger. With its cross-platform features, you can play with anyone on most platforms.

Minecraft is the perfect game to play, whether you’re a parent or a hardcore gamer.

Rocket League

Genre: Vehicle-Based Soccer Game

Available On: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox X|S, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, Windows, Linux

Rocket League combines two gaming genres that you probably wouldn’t expect to see a combination of: cars and soccer.

If the combo sounds intriguing, you’re going to love what the game offers. You play a bite-sized soccer match using a car with the main goal of scoring a goal against the enemy team. By the end of the match, whoever has the most points wins.

You can play 1v1 as well as 4v4 matches and more players means there’s going to be more chaos. The game also has a competitive league-based ranking system where you can play with other players on your skill level.

Brawlhalla

Genre: Fighting Game

Available On: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox X|S, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, Windows

Fighting games are that one genre that isn’t as fun to play solo. My biggest gripe with most multiplayer fighting games is that you’re limited to playing with people on the same platform. Brawlhalla fixes this problem by offering cross-compatibility among most gaming platforms.

Not just that, the game is free-to-play, with optional microtransactions. Although the gameplay isn’t as in-depth as other fighting games like Tekken, Mortal Kombat, or Street Fighter, the amount of fun gameplay it offers is bound to keep you and your friends hooked for hours.

No Man’s Sky

Genre: Fighting Game

Available On: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox X|S, Nintendo Switch, Windows

This game has gone from being one of gaming’s biggest misfires to being one of the best success stories in gaming. Although at launch, the game was barebones, missing a lot of features and being a bug-filled mess, now the game has the features that were promised at launch, as well as new ones being added.

The game is a perfectly fine game to play solo. However, it becomes a lot more fun when exploring the galaxy and going on adventures with a group of up to four people.

In the game, you can explore the galaxy, do quests to earn money, and build bases on planets. Your friends can join in anytime during your adventure, regardless of platform which makes it a great game to play casually.
